MAKE THAT CHANGE - Monday, January 25, 2010
In 2010, choose to work on those areas of your life that will cultivate a good name without compromising your standard or integrity!
I am amazed at how many of us wake up everyday knowing what it takes to be what God desires, and we decide to maintain something that is beneath that standard. I am discovering that the quality of our lives is inexplicably linked to our willingness to make necessary changes! Change that is not just for change sake, but changes that are designed to:
- Unclutter our space
- Simplify our life
- Clarify our purpose
- Improve our relationships
I believe strongly that God desires so much more for us, and in order to fully appropriate those things we must stay open to God! Staying open to God means that at any moment God can speak to us through any means, and can use it to alter an area or a behavior for the greater good! This is so important because with all God desires for you, this openness will keep you on the cutting edge! So this year make up your mind that you will do what it takes to cultivate a good name! Today read Jeremiah 29:11 and declare that this day you will work on you, changing what makes you the awesome person God has created! Have a SWAGGTASTIC DAY!

SUBTLE ADJUSTMENTS - Tuesday, January 26, 2010
In 2010, trust that simple, subtle adjustments will produce incredible growth and progress. Become a better student of life.
Isn’t it amazing how subtle changes or alterations in appearance can create a totally different look? How many times have you garnered a compliment from family and friends and all you did was change something subtle? You did nothing major, just a subtle change! Well, what’s awesome is that God’s abundant growth and progress is one change away! Yes, one area in your life might hold the key to what and where God wants to take you. I want to encourage this year to:
Really pay attention to your life. Take time to do a consistent inventory of who you are and what you believe to be God’s will for you.
Engage in conversations with persons you know are themselves seeking God and His perfect will for their lives. Empower them to honestly share with you, who they see you as being! Listen without defense!
Devote healthy time to prayer and reflection! The Holy Spirit is an awesome partner to have on this journey!
Make this year one of obvious growth and development. Decide that you will never look back, but will move forward living with a swagger! Read Genesis 18 and allow Lot’s story to speak to you about adjusting! Have a SWAGGTASTIC DAY!

LOVE WHO GOD IS MAKING YOU - Wednesday, January 27, 2010
In 2010, fall out of love with anything that makes you hate what God is making you!
This is the year you really LOVE who God is making you! That means that you are so open to the process of your personal development, and you value it so until it just makes sense to you. No matter how challenging it is, and no matter what sacrifices are required, you see the outcome and it inspires you daily to pursue LIFE with passion and excitement. Understand that living with this kind of passion causes at times tension, but the tension is a natural part of the developmental process. What God is making you is so amazing, and yet so different until you must be willing to:
- Live in the future while working through the conditions and demands of the present.
- Be open to honest assessment and allow the assessment to aid you and not offend you.
- Be change ready! Know that healthy alterations to who you are is key.
- Trust relationships and discern which ones are best for you!
- Finally, but most importantly, live in the Presence of God every moment!
By loving whom God is making you, you will get the most out of each day! Each moment will translate into something positive, and even your challenges will serve you for your good! God is making something incredible and that is YOU! Go after what God is doing and ENJOY!

SHOW THEM YOU CARE - Thursday, January 28, 2010
In 2010, don't use the excuse "I AM BUSY" to justify poor relationships! Know that in the end, people are most important, not schedules.
What good is it to accomplish all your goals and end up alone? What good is it to be great at something and have no one to enjoy the harvest with? I am discovering that relationships are my prized possessions! God grants us relationships because we matter to Him! So I have two words of encouragement:
- Take time to reach out to others this year! Devote time to showing you care by sending cards and texts that say, “I AM THINKING ABOUT YOU!”
- Schedule time for returning phone calls so people will always know that they matter to you! It is important that you say to others that they are valued. Returning their call says that more than anything else!
I am so excited about where God is taking you, and I believe that you will see increased growth in the area of relationships. Enjoy people!

SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT - Friday, January 29, 2010
In 2010, grow in faith by reading and writing each day! Make your spiritual development primary and not an accident!
Spiritual development is not by accident, but it is an intentional set of interrelated acts or practices that are designed to shape your consciousness. I believe that the person who understands this will do “whatever” it takes to grow and develop with the ultimate outcome being holistic maturity. Because spiritual development is the result of acts, the question becomes what are those acts or practices? I want to suggest today that there are two that will aid greatly!
- Reading
The person who consistently reads will be stretched to grow and will be called to maintain openness to the voice of God. And even when you do not agree, it is still important that you have engagement with the views and opinions of others. Now note that reading the Bible is foundational but not exclusive. Be willing to read other genres of literature to augment the reading of the Word of God.
- Writing
This is so important because by writing you expose and reveal your thoughts! Writing gives your thoughts and feelings an expressive conduit. The courage to write means that you trust your feelings and thoughts regardless of how insignificant they appear to others. Please know that writing helps to purify your soul and to keep your mind uncluttered!
Each one of these is vital to spiritual formation. So this year take time each day to read and write. You will be better for it! Have a SWAGGTASTIC DAY!

VALUE YOUR LIFE - Tuesday, February 2, 2010
Woke up one morning to a cell phone not working and my first thought was, "I need to take this to a Verizon dealer!" Then I thought, "why are we smarter with our gadgets than our lives?" A gadget breaks and we run quickly to the dealer but when our lives break down we run to other broken down gadgets! Maybe time to run back to the dealer for healthy repairs!
Do you value your life? Do you fully appreciate the person God desires you to be? Why is it then that we allow others to have so much influence over us when they themselves are struggling? I want to suggest that in this season of your life, it is imperative that we seek out the counsel of God! This involves placing yourself before God and empowering Him to direct your steps. This also involves choosing to satisfy the heart of God by determining that His voice should speak to your issues and needs.
Read Proverbs 3:5-6 today and seriously commit to executing them. Know that by obeying this verse you will walk before and with God in a way that will blow your mind. So trust God with you and watch the results. Have a SWAGGTASTIC DAY!

MICROMANAGE YOUR CHARACTER - Wednesday, February 3, 2010
In 2010, micromanage your character and trust the process of its development!
Stay guard over you and see God direct your steps. I know that when someone takes seriously their own life, things work out to their benefit. It is time then to do just that! To take a good look at your life and determine what areas you need to work on. Begin this process by spending healthy time in the presence of God through Prayer! Devote your energy to seeking out God and know that in the end God and only God can determine your outcome! So by trusting God and allowing his Spirit to direct you, you can live a full and complete life. This means, as well, that you must become more sensitive to the dynamics of your life. Thus, the need to micromanage is paramount. If you submit to God, God will in turn call you to guard your space and take seriously what His Spirit shows you. I am convinced that everything that God is doing in your life is precious and you and only you can protect it. Others can assist but you must be chief in that process.
God loves you so and He wants the best for you. Know that and trust it as well. Love you, have an amazing day! Read today Psalms 1:1-3

TODAY, BE INTENTIONAL - Thursday, February 4, 2010
Today decide you are going to be intentional. Do something, say something, and make some decision that directly affects your destiny! No fear!
First Read Luke 9:51 and then read the devotional below!
Upon reading this scripture what did you notice? Let me tell you what I noticed. I noticed that Jesus’ Calvary/Resurrection experience was a choice long before the reality of the moment! This seemingly insignificant verse serves as a major transitional moment in His life, and ultimately in the history of creation! Jesus decided to be intentional. I must encourage you today to do something as we use to say, “ON PURPOSE!” Decide that your life is so incredible that to leave it to chance would be a horrible mistake! Give today a chance to be an awesome day by doing something that clearly speaks of your confidence in which you have in God! Trust it and know that God has you! You are an amazing vessel for Jesus Christ, and so be proud to wake up every day and be aggressive by doing what you know will honor God in the end! So today, DO SOMETHING POSITIVE AND IMPACTFUL! Have an awesome and SWAGGTASTIC day!

THE VALUE OF A ROLE MODEL - Friday, February 5, 2010
Role models are not doors to your success, but classrooms that lead to your maturity! Don’t take advantage of great people learn from them!
Nothing is more precious than a powerful role model who God has ordained for your life.
Their presence in your life becomes paramount to what and where God wants to take you.
They:
- Push you beyond your prescribed limits
- Correct you so you do not become comfortable with bad habits and destructive tendencies
- Instruct you so you develop healthy traits and form spiritually
- Love you so you feel covered
- Affirm you so you develop a healthy sense of value
- Challenge you so you never become stagnant
- Model before you so you have an object lesson of authentic greatness
- Pray for you because they know that only God can finish what is started in you.
Believe me there is nothing more valuable and more meaningful then walking with and when need be behind a God ordained role model. I have watched my life unfolded and must say that it has been men and women of greatness whose lives have impacted me. I understand today that there is no arrival without a healthy connection to someone who knows the path and willingly offers to walk with you. Now notice that it is up to us to:
- Submit to them
- Trust them
- Follow their example
- Guard them
- Enjoy the privilege of their presence
For all of you who do not have a healthy role model, seek the Lord today and be spirit lead as to who God will use to push you in the right direction! Love you and enjoy your weekend!

STAY THE COURSE - Tuesday, February 9, 2010
I have discovered that if you stay the course, you will eventually arrive at the place of God's desire for you!
I am also discovering that one of the biggest deterrences to fulfilling God’s will for our lives is impatience. No matter how incredibly gifted we are, if we lack healthy patience we will ALWAYS move too quickly or give up too soon! It is sad because for many of us, we would see ALL that God has for us if only we could and would STAY THE COURSE!
By STAYING THE COURSE I mean:
- Focusing intently on God until His purpose becomes clear
- Remaining true to who God has created you to be
- Fighting through the tendency to move before you are clear it is God speaking and directing
- Embracing fully all God has called and commissioned you to be
The amazing thing about those who STAY THE COURSE is that they rarely lose their sense of identity. They find within their relationship with God the strength needed to follow through what is required in this season. Though they are challenged, nothing, and I mean nothing, distracts them. This, friend, is what my prayer is for you the rest of the year! Discern God’s path and trust it with your own heart! Do not allow you to be pulled away and know that in the end, God will honor your trust and obedience!
Enjoy the Path! Today read I Corinthians 15:58

WORK ON IT - Wednesday, February 10, 2010
"Spiritual habits that are forged do not change because of your context. Your God response is a reflex."
This is a quote from a sermon preached on February 7, 2010 by one of my best friends, Bishop Derek Triplett. When I heard it in the context of worship, it struck me! I was like, Wow he is so right! As I reflected on it, the profundity of it exploded within me! It dawned on me that for many who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ, the demands of life overtake us, because we have not developed a reflex spiritual life. Meaning, we have not devoted ourselves to the spiritual disciplines long enough until they become a natural response in situations and not a force response.
In other words, when challenged I naturally pray instead of first getting angry or offended, and then praying a week later. My natural response is prayer, not complaining or pouting. It is imperative that we learn to live in the world of natural spiritual response! The only way to do this, one must:
- Devote quality time to the study of the Spiritual Disciplines. I recommend the book by Richard Foster entitled, SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES.
- Endure the season of forming the habit within you. This means keep doing it until it sticks.
- Excitedly desire the execution of the Spiritual Habit. See the eternal reward in the behavior and know that God will honor you in due season.
- Seek the counsel of the Holy Spirit daily.
Take it from me, when the Spiritual habits or disciplines are formed in you, you will find yourself stronger and wiser for the incredible path God, through Jesus Christ, has crafted and carved for you! So go and grow!
Read Psalms 1:2-3

WON'T QUIT - Thursday, February 11, 2010
Dispel discouragement with a tenacity to see the plan of God come to pass! Know you are stronger in Christ than any force assigned to you!
So what is tenacity anyway? Let me offer 3 descriptive traits to describe it!
- Healthy stubbornness
- Unrelenting resolve
- Pesky persistence
I believe that if you look closely at all three of these traits they will give you an accurate framework for understanding Tenacity! Tenacity is the DON’T QUIT in you! When you posses tenacity it does not matter what you face, nothing, and I do mean nothing, will push you away. Persons may leave and situations may arise that are painful, but you will do what is necessary to stay faithful to what you KNOW is God’s design and desire for you. I have discovered during my time on earth that the greater the resolve in me, the more amazing things God will gladly allow me to experience and to manifest! Sorry, but I do not believe that God wants me to struggle everyday! No in fact I am a firm believer that because of Jesus Christ, I can know confidently His purpose for me. So I go after life with an unrelenting passion and God grants me what is needed! Do not run from what God has for you! Trust that God will accomplish what he has begun! Feed your tenacity with:
- Prayer
- Personal worship
- Healthy conversations
You will come out victoriously! Read Luke 22:39-46

DO IT - Friday, February 12, 2010
Rise up and live! Enjoy where God has you and embrace the amazing opportunities within! Notice how Jesus never mismanaged a moment!
One of the interesting things about Jesus’ healing ministry was that on several occasions he did not physically touch those he was calling to healing! In fact, Jesus on a couple of occasions simply told persons to get up. That’s right, GET UP! Instead of doing the work for them, Jesus simply gave a command. I am convinced that many of us would live happier and healthier lives if we executed the command of our Lord Jesus Christ.
So now it is time to simply RISE UP AND LIVE! In Jesus Christ!
This means go aggressively after all God has, through Jesus Christ, created for you. Know that God has you and only if you have the courage to pursue will you see the full measure of God’s grace in you. So Rise Up and Live!

SEE YOURSELF THROUGH GOD'S EYES, You May Like What You See -
Thursday, February 18, 2010
This is one of the great challenges of my life right now. The ability to “see” myself as God sees me is both endearing and daunting, to say the least. This, of course, means you must UNCLUTTER your space beginning with your mind and actively pursuing the will of God. I am grateful to God for all He gives me and for every confirming moment. Each moment is designed to awaken within me and you the belief that we are:
- Loved by God with no conditions
- Capable of doing the things God declares
This is so vital, and I believe strongly that the person who fully embraces God’s view of themselves will:
- Not be manipulated by unhealthy people
- Minimize negative moments during the course of their day
- Endure each challenge, seeing the good in the moment and not the bad
- Possess a positive attitude about yourself and others
Please note that when you live in the power of healthy awareness of self, you declare that you trust God, and what God says about you. So see yourself through God's eyes and you will never miss who you really are! Have an amazing day!
